2019 has begun and has proven rather fruitful technology-wise. If the year 2018 is any indication of the evolution and advancement of technology, then we are running at a quantum speed this year to surpass all the advancements of previous years.
In our previous blogs, we have been talking about how Software Defined Everything is the future, be it distant or near. Few of the most-definite advancements that we think will happen in 2019 are:
Telecom enterprises are about to take a gigantic step by launching 5th Generation technology. Experts expect that this tech will take the data volume to new heights and the volume of consumed data will only rise exponentially with this launch. Since it is a given fact that IoT devices will only continue to become more common than ever, so will data consumption and the expectation of faster data processing. But one must beware that even though the tech will be seen in 2019, it will only reach its full potential globally gradually over a period of 3 to 5 years.
Amazon (Alexa) and Google (Echo and Home) have proven that they are pretty serious about being the top choice for voice assistants for SMART homes. Also, unlike “Black Mirror”, smart homes are not an indication of a dystopian future but a current reality which is comfortable, efficient, safe and secured. SMART (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) HOME Technology automates and monitors all devices to the IoT for example, the AC, the heater, the fridge, smartphones, the lights, the TV, the internet and most importantly, the locks. These are just a few of the things that are mentioned, while the list is enormous, you can understand the importance of smart homes. Similar tech is being used to go beyond SMART homes and to create and sustain SMART Cities.
Even though Bitcoin’s face-first dive into oblivion was much talked about, it can be assured that the usefulness of the Blockchain technology is not defined or limited by the market value of the fallen bitcoin. This tech offers security that is beneficial in many other ways. Since we can only add new data to an information chain and not delete/edit previous blocks of data in this tech, this kind of security plays a significant role in protecting information such as personal medical data or supply chain data.
The 1984 cult classic “The Terminator” and its subsequent sequels/prequels made Artificial Intelligence (named Skynet) look evil. Although a great set of hexalogy, the AI being evil part is definitely NOT TRUE! AI has been around since 1956 and the architecture will remain for the longest time possible. Some of the tasks that we never pay attention to like the daily timetable of public transportation, navigation apps and so much more, use automation for safety, fast processing and mostly to make it error-free. Machine learning, RPA (Robotic Process Automation) and AI are few of the latest trends in AUTOMATION that many industries are deploying for their specialized skill-sets. According to MARKETSANDMARKETS, machine learning market alone is expected to be worth 8.81 BN USD by 2022.
Obviously, cybersecurity is not a new feature, but various intricate advancements that have been made to this umbrella term is beyond amazing. Thanks to he malicious hackers/cyber terrorists, the evolution in the field to search for the tightest security has been stupendous. Moreover, with enterprises going completely digital, it is essential for the service providers to come up with cutting-edge, state-of-the-art security measures for wholesome information protection.
The ones discussed above are only a few of the emerging and evolving tech trends that this year will witness. There are many more on the way. David Cearley — Vice President, Gartner, discusses Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2019 in this video. See here.
